Transporting an injured elephant is one of the most difficult challenges in animal rescue, especially when the patient weighs over three and a half tons and is weakened by severe injuries. Dok Gaew could barely lift her legs, slowly shuffling forward with pain in her left elbow. Leaving her behind with limited treatment was not an option — her condition would only worsen, leading to inevitable death. Yet moving her carried risks as well. Faced with this impossible choice, the team made the bravest decision they could.

With constant care and tireless effort from veterinarians and rescue staff, Dok Gaew’s strength was gradually restored enough for transport to a safer place. Her will to live never faded. Today, she is retired from a lifetime of hardship and work, receiving ongoing care in a peaceful environment where healing and freedom are finally possible. Her journey is a powerful reminder that compassion, teamwork, and love can give even the most vulnerable animals a second chance at life.
