Safari wildlife encounters offer an undeniable thrill, yet a herd of elephants can evoke both awe and anxiety.

Such was the experience of a BMW SUV driver recently at Pilanesberg National Park in northern South Africa.
While on a self-driving safari, the driver found themselves in a heart-pounding situation as a herd of elephants brushed past their vehicle, effectively blocking the road.
This moment was captured on video by fellow safari enthusiast Mutali Ramadikela (@mutali_rsa), sparking reactions across social media platforms, particularly TikTok, where the video has amassed over half a million views.
“Not going to lie, I was stressed on their behalf!” commented Ramadikela, expressing the tension and excitement that many viewers felt as they watched the majestic animals investigate the car.
Other commenters shared their thrill and apprehension, with remarks ranging from laughter at the elephants’ curiosity to genuine concern for the vehicle’s safety.
“That one elephant that is just staring at the car,” quipped @justt_cocoa, highlighting the captivating nature of the encounter.
Elephants are known for their size and strength, and while they are not predators, they can pose serious dangers, especially when threatened or during specific seasonal behaviours.
