A dramatic encounter unfolded in South Africa’s Kruger National Park when a Cape buffalo became stuck in a muddy wallow — and a hyena quickly took advantage of the situation.
The video, filmed by visitor Sune and shared with Latest Sightings, shows the buffalo lying helpless in the mud as a lone hyena cautiously approaches. After confirming there was no danger, the hyena begins feeding on the buffalo, despite it still being alive.
Unable to defend itself or escape, the buffalo could only let out weak bellows as the hyena continued to feed. Though scenes like this may be unsettling, they reflect the harsh realities of life in the wild, where predators often exploit vulnerable prey to avoid injury and competition.
