Buffalo Herd Turns the Tables on a Lion

A lion thought it had found an easy target when it approached a young buffalo separated from the herd. The predator moved quickly, hoping to overpower the calf before the adults could react.

But the attack triggered an immediate response. The mother buffalo charged toward the lion, followed by other members of the herd. Within seconds, the predator was no longer the hunter—it was the one desperately looking for an escape. A recent Masai Mara sighting captured a similar sequence in which a buffalo herd rushed together to defend a newborn calf from a lion.

The lion eventually abandoned the attack and disappeared into the grass, while the calf returned to the safety of the herd. It was a powerful reminder that strength in numbers can completely change the outcome of a predator attack.
