In a muddy stretch of wilderness, a puku found itself in one of the worst situations imaginableâtrapped and unable to escape.
Its legs were stuck deep in thick mud, making even the smallest movement difficult. Thatâs when danger arrived. A lion approached, quickly recognizing the opportunity. With the puku immobilized, this should have been an easy hunt.

But the antelope didnât give up.
Instead of surrendering, it gathered what little strength it had and attempted a desperate defense. As the lion moved in, the puku suddenly lunged forward, trying to headbutt its attacker in a last-ditch effort to survive.
For a brief moment, it showed surprising courage.
However, the mud worked against it. The struggle caused thick sludge to smear across the pukuâs face, partially blinding it and making it even harder to aim or defend itself.
Sensing the advantage, the lion wasted no time.
With calm precision, it moved in closer and seized the puku by the neck. The trapped animal could barely react, its earlier burst of resistance fading as the predator took control.

In the wild, situations like this leave little room for escape. Once mobility is lost, even the strongest instinct to fight back is often not enough.
What started as a brave attempt to defend itself quickly turned into an inevitable outcomeâshowing just how unforgiving nature can be when one small disadvantage turns into a fatal one.
