Wow! This is incredible! I’m blown away that you were able to capture this on film. It’s a piece you should submit to National Geographic. What a fantastic film and experience. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and for being so gentle with the snakes. Many Texans could benefit from your knowledge of rattlesnakes.
Rattlesnakes are known to fight for dominance during mating season, and the sight is sometimes described as a Fighting Dance. I observed these two male snakes hiking the other day and went online to find out what they were up to. Apparently, they’re competing to see who can get the woman snake during mating season by being the biggest and strongest.
Rattlesnakes are surprisingly gregarious creatures. They’re fighting, and it looks to be a greeting ceremony in which they try to outdo one other in order to mate with nearby females.
