Meet Anaka, a remarkable juvenile gorilla with a patch of pigment on her hand that is one of a kind.
It almost looks human-like in close-up photos, which makes sense given our close kinship with gorillas, who also have opposable thumbs.
Her skin isn’t the only feature that sets her apart; she also appears to have a distinct personality.
“[She] is frequently seen riding piggyback on her brother and sisters and yelling at her mother and others to secure a prime place for food and juice.”
Many people assumed Anaka had vitiligo, which is a long-term skin disorder.
‘Well, her skin pigment has always been like that and hasn’t changed throughout the years, so we think it’s simply a cool birthmark,’ says one.
